Alliance gifts contain a considerable amount of item rewards and Gold. Also, more active players can help you speed up your activities such as upgrading buildings, researching, training, and others. Just follow common method to develop, and research. As a non-spender, all kinds of ranking is nothing to do with us. All that we want is safety, and not being attacked! Monthly/Weekly PacksThe pack I’ll recommend forever is the Dragon’s Gift! Once you buy it, you can collect rewards each day as long as you play CoK. 
I’ll also recommend Creator, the building hero. In the early period, upgrading buildings are basic tasks. The creator can significantly reduce building time and resources consumption. After using his active skills, your next building activity won’t consume Food/Wood/Iron/Mithril. The Creator’s Set, which is the exclusive equipment Set for this hero, can even reduce more building time and resource consumption. It’s recommended in the early developing period!
