The stream appears in some levels and looks like a blue ribbon. You can see lily pads in it and pieces on them (not on the stream itself). The lily pads move in a set direction with each move.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you make a match with pieces on lily pads, the lily pads will only move once new pieces fall on the field. When you make a match in a different part of the field, new pieces will only fall in after the lily pads move. Keep that in mind when planning your moves.
