Gems are precious stones that can be placed into an equipment’s socket to give you an additional stat boost.
The gems can be crafted or obtained as rewards, and exist in 8 rarity levels. You can also fuse 3 gems of the same type to obtain a gems of higher rarity (up to heroic). However legendary and relic gems can only be obtained from Hell dungeons at level 50 and 60 respectively.
To add gems to a piece of gear, you will first have to piece sockets, up to 5 in total. The socketing process costs gold and may fail. You will see a message displayed when this happens.
Besides the sockets are bound to the equipment, if you get a new weapon you will have to pierce sockets again.
TIP: it is best to only add gems on legendary and relic gear.
There are currently 10 types of gems:
- STR Gems increase your Strength
- INT Gems increase your Intellect
- AGI Gems increase your Agility
- STA Gemsincrease your Stamina
- Spell Gemsincrease your Spell Power
- Battle Gemsincrease your Attack Power
- Life Gems increase your Max HP
- Mana Gems increase your Max MP
- Recover Gems increase your HP Regen
- Serenity Gems increase your MP Regen
Generally speaking the 4 base stats STR/INT/AGI/STA and Spell/Battle Gems are the best. Gems impacting your HP/MP can be useful at the beginning, but as you level up they won’t have a significant impact on your total HP/MP at the moment.
Depending on your class you may consider:
- Warrior/Archer: STR, AGI, STA, Battle Gems + 5th one (HP/MP related, or INT to help on Magic Defense)
- Mage: INT, AGI, STA, Spell Gems + 5th one (HP/MP related, or STR to help on Physical Defense)
- Shaman: INT, AGI, STA, Spell Gems + 5th one (STR probably)
