Each server has different rankings for Mythical Glory. Each server has a maximum of fifty Mythical Glory ranked players who are the top fifty players on that server. While your friend may have fewer stars than you, in their server they are one of the top fifty Mythic players, so they have reached the Mythical Glory ranking.
