Glossary – Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Guide

Amplifier The device at Inns where you place and activate Dark Detectors.
Arena The Arena is the room interface of a Wizarding Challenge that displays you, your Teammates, and Foes. Here you can apply Strategic Spells to impair a Foe or enhance your Teammates.
Auror One of three different Professions you can choose from. Aurors are highly-trained witches and wizards who are strong against Dark Wizards.
Cauldron Your Ministry-supplied cauldron used to brew Potions. This Cauldron has unlimited uses.
Challenges section The Challenges section in your Registry that contains all Foundables you’ll obtain from Wizarding Challenges.
Code Name Your Code Name is your unique in-game username. Your Code Name is stored by Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and can be seen by other players.
Combat encounter A combat encounter is an interaction in Wizarding Challenges or Oddity Traces where you cast spells to attack and defend against an opponent in combat.
Compass The compass indicates the direction you are traveling in on the Map.
Confoundable The chaotic obstacles protecting a Foundable. Your task is to cast spells to remove the Confoundable and return the Foundable.
Daily Tasks A task may require you to collect food from Inns or brew a Potion, for instance. Complete all the Daily Tasks for the day to receive Gold to spend at Diagon Alley.
Daily Treasure Receive rewards each day you sign into Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Treasures can be items such as Scrolls, Dark Detectors or a mystery item.
Dark Detector A Dark Detector is a Vault item that can be used at Inns to reveal higher-threat Traces. Inns can have up to three Dark Detectors attached to them at a time. You can purchase additional Dark Detectors by visiting Diagon Alley.
Encounter An encounter is an interaction you’ll have with Traces you find on the Map where you cast spells to remove Confoundables.
Events section The Events section in your Registry contains items related to Events.
Explorations section The Explorations section in your Registry contains all Foundables you’ll obtain from Traces. You can also gain some Foundables from Wizarding Challenges.
Expertise Expertise is a summary of your combat effectiveness in your Profession. It displays information on stat improvements and abilities you acquire by completing Lessons.
Family XP progress bar The Family XP progress bar tracks your progress towards reaching higher Registry ranks for a given Family. Earn a Treasure Trunk every time you increase a Family rank.
Family A Family is a collection of related Foundables in your Registry.
Focus Focus is an energy resource used to power Strategic Spells in Wizarding Challenges.
Foes The Dark Wizards, Beasts, and Curiosities you’ll combat in Wizarding Challenges.
Food Collect food at Inns to replenish Spell Energy for spellcasting and combat.
Fortresses Visit Fortress locations on the Map to participate in Wizarding Challenges with other wizards and witches.
Foundable Foundables are the objects, people, creatures, and memories that were captured by The Calamity. Your job as a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force is to find and return Foundables.
Fragment Pieces of a Foundable. All Fragments must be collected in order to place the Foundable Sticker in your Registry.
Gold Gold is the currency of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. It can be used in exchange for items at Diagon Alley.
Gold Cauldron Using a Gold rental Cauldron alongside your regular Cauldron allows you to brew two potions simultaneously. Gold Cauldrons also brew Potions faster.
Greenhouses Collect ingredients at Greenhouses to brew Potions. You can also get Spell Energy at Greenhouses.
Sticker A Sticker represents a missing Foundable that has been returned to the wizarding world and marks your progress in your Registry.
Ingredients The components used to brew Potions. These items can be found on the Map or in Greenhouses. You can view them in your Vault.
Inn Visit Inn locations on the Map to gather food and replenish Spell Energy for spellcasting and combat.
Keys Keys are a Vault item used in combination with traveling distances (km) to unlock a Portkey Portmanteau and reveal the Portkey.
Landmarks Landmarks are flags that mark the areas on the Map where specific sets of Family Foundables are concentrated.
Lessons Lessons upgrade your Expertise and make you more proficient in your Profession. Use Scrolls and Spell Books to upgrade your Lessons.
Magical Me The avatar marker on the Map that represents your real-world location.
Magizoologist One of three different Professions you can choose from. Magizoologists are resourceful witches and wizards who are strong against Beasts.
Map The Map shows your location in the real world. It displays the locations of Traces, ingredients, Portkey Portmanteaus, Fortresses, Inns, and Greenhouses.
Master Notes When brewing Potions, Master Notes are the sequence of gestures that are performed above the Cauldron’s surface to reduce brewing time. Every Potion recipe has a unique Master Note to be discovered.
Ministry ID The Ministry ID is your in-game profile. Your Ministry ID includes your Wizarding name, Wizarding level, and other account details.
Mysteries section The Mysteries section in your Registry contains all of the story items related to The Calamity.
Oddities An Oddity is another kind of Trace encounter where you will engage in combat with a Foundable. You must defeat them and drain all of their Stamina to return the Foundable inside the Trace.
Pages Pages are sections found within each Registry Family where you place the Stickers of the Foundables you return. They represent a scene within the wizarding world (such as Hagrid’s Hut).
Portkey Portmanteau Portkey Portmanteaus are items that appear on the Map. These Muggle-proof trunks can be unlocked to reveal a Portkey. Insert a key and walk with a Portkey Portmanteau to reveal a Portkey.
Portkey Portkeys are enchanted objects that transport wizards to wizarding locations where they can receive Ministry rewards. Portkeys are locked in Muggle-proof trunks called Portkey Portmanteaus.
Potions Magical concoctions that you can use to heal yourself, improve your abilities and even enhance spellcasting. You can view your Potions in the Vault.
Prestige Once all Foundable fragments have been returned to a Registry page and all of the stickers appear in full-color, you will receive Family XP for your efforts and the option to Prestige becomes available. When you Prestige a page, you will upgrade the page frame and reset its Registry stickers so you can complete the page again.
Professions Choose a Profession (Auror, Professor, Magizoologist) to influence your combat proficiency in Wizarding Challenges. You can use Scrolls and Spell Books to gain Expertise in your Profession.
Professor One of three different Professions you can choose from. Professors are learned witches and wizards who are strong against Curiosities.
Protego Cast the defence charm, Protego to reduce the amount of damage you receive in Combat.
Recipes A listing of ingredients and quantities required to brew Potions.
Restricted Section Books Restricted Section Books are Vault items you receive primarily from Events. Along with Scrolls and Spell Books, they can be used for Lessons to increase and add to your Expertise.
Runestones Runestones are Vault items that are consumed to gain access to Chambers in Wizarding Challenges.
Scrolls Scrolls are the Vault items you receive from Exploration Treasure Trunks. Along with Spell Books, they can be used on Lessons to increase and add to your Expertise.
Spell Books Spell Books are the Vault items you receive from Challenge Treasure Trunks. Along with Scrolls, they can be used for Lessons to increase and add to your Expertise.
Spell Energy Spell Energy is the resource needed to power spellcasting for Trace encounters and Wizarding Challenges.
Spell glyph To cast a spell during a Trace encounter, use your finger to trace the spell glyph that appears on the screen.
Strategic Spell Strategic Spells can be used in Wizarding Challenges to impair a Foe or enhance your Teammates before combat.
Suitcase The Suitcase is the in-game menu where you can access your Registry, Ministry ID, Potions Bench, Vault, Profession, and Portkeys.
The Registry The Registry is a listing of all the missing Foundables. Returning Foundables will add their Stickers to your Registry.
Threat Level The degree of danger that the Foundable itself or its exposure represents. The Threat Level indicates how difficult it will be to return the Foundable.
Threat Meter The Threat Meter indicates the Threat Level of the Foundables you encounter.
Traces Traces can be found on the Map. Tap on a Trace to begin the encounter with a Foundable. The Trace Icon indicates the Foundable’s Family in the Registry.
Treasure Trunk Treasure Trunks contain Scrolls, Spell Books, Runestones, or other Vault items. Earn a Treasure Trunk every time you increase a Family rank.
Vault The inventory of the items you collect or purchase, such as Potions, Dark Detectors, and Runestones. The Vault is separated into four sections: Potions, Ingredients, Utility, and Runestones.
Wizarding Challenge Unite with other witches and wizards in Wizarding Challenges to encounter rarer and more difficult to return Foundables. In Wizarding Challenges you will engage in combat against a Foe in order to return Foundables.
Wizarding name Wizarding name is the alias you’ll enter on your Ministry ID. This name is not stored by Harry Potter: Wizards Unite nor shared with other players.
Wrackspurt While exploring within a Portkey, tap on these glowing creatures to get Ministry rewards.
