At a certain point early in the game, you will unlock the Wishing Tree. From that point on, players that visit your mansion will automatically add ribbons to your Wishing Tree. As more people visit your mansion, the Wishing Tree will become more colorful. Please note that sometimes it may take multiple visits to get new ribbons.
