I selected "Less like this" — Why am I still seeing similar content? – Flipboard guide

Let me start by explaining how the “Less Like This” feature works, and some of its limitations. The Show Less Like This menu option only works for Cover Stories and smart magazines, and not for magazines and topic feeds that you follow. This is because magazines and topic feeds are not personalized, every Flipboard user gets the same feed. Cover Stories and smart magazines are personalized, and we apply your preferences in ranking and filtering the feed.A smart magazine will have a root topic, and any subtopics will get an extra boost inside that feed. When you tap on Show Less Like this, a negative signal is distributed across all topic tags for that story. Then, if you additionally tap Show Less for a specific topic tag, that also gets an additional negative signal. If you do this a few times, eventually the topic gets a negative signal powerful enough to filter it out from future feeds (in Cover Stories and smart magazines). However, things get tricky with related and subtopics. For example, Basketball is a subtopic of Sports and stories about Basketball will always be tagged with Sports and likely other related topics like College Sports, Olympics, and Sneakers. “Show Less Like” is a signal that accumulates over time, and combines with other positive signals (views, likes, followed topics) that affects the frequency of articles you see, but may not eliminate the topic entirely from your feeds. You have the option of creating very specific smart magazines around niche topics (for example just Basketball) by searching for any topic when creating the Smart magazine. You may get better results this way than customizing generally broad topics
